Overview

Passion, tights and tutus are front and centre in this touching tale of cross class romance between a working-class ballerina and a gentleman sculptor in Edwardian London. With Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ as an accompaniment, a young dancer is swept off her feet by a suave stage-door Johnnie – much to her family’s horror. Adroitly directed by Anthony Asquith, from the novel by Compton (Whisky Galore) Mackenzie, with ballet scenes courtesy of Marie Rambert’s Dancers.
