Overview
“Devils” and “Mules” have their part to play in the production of the tweed in the mills situated beside the Leri river at Tal-y-bont, Ceredigion. Here the wool is still woven by hand, as demonstrated by John Hughes, master weaver, in this extract from an Anglia Television programme in the very popular ‘Bygones’ series (series 5, episode 14, broadcast 5/4/1973), presented by Norfolk farmer Dick Joice. The mills closed in 1980, having opened in 1809.
