Overview

A group of young models show fur fashions in a park in Exmouth. Fur is a questionable and controversial fashion statement. The anti-fur movement started after the anti-sealing campaign in the 1970s. Brigitte Bardot became involved in the anti-fur movement and as an actress and model she influenced many. Fur didn’t fall out of fashion until the 1980s when an aggressive media campaign stated it was morally wrong to kill and wear any animals.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Foundation (PETA) is a UK charity dedicated to protecting the rights of animals. PETA's "I’d rather go naked than wear fur" campaign has seen many celebrities and the British public back the anti-fur campaign and there is now a stigma attached to wearing fur.
