Overview

It's Hastings' first fishing festival since WWI broke out and Britain's foremost newsreel company, Topical Budget, take to the pier to capture the catch on film. A gentle story, it brings a little light relief to a news programme dominated by coverage of the war across the Channel. But war's violence isn't entirely out of sight: one fishing soldier's trouser leg is pinned up over his missing limb.
