Overview

A farmer narrates as he prepares his prize cattle for market. He shows the Devon and South Devon Cross which produces good beef and he will be taking them to Fatstock Shows in Cornwall and Devon. It is a culmination of a year’s work to rear the best cow for beef and showcase quality. The judges will look at the shape of the cow and assess its ability to produce good meat.

Most beef is produced from heifers or females that haven’t had young, from cows or females that have had young and also from steers or neutered males. Bulls are produced for breeding purposes although oxen or adult neutered bulls are also used for meat. The tradition of a Fatstock Show dates back centuries and give farmers a chance to show their fattened animals before the Christmas Markets.
