Hull's Tidal Wave
A tidal surge in Hull prompts poignant newsreel pictures of wreckage and recovery.
Non-Fiction 1921 2 mins
Overview
These poignant pictures of wreckage and recovery were shot after a tidal surge hit Hull on the evening of 17 December 1921. While the incident clearly had a disastrous impact on the city and its residents, these starkly beautiful scenes capture a sense of community spirit, as neighbours clear houses, firemen pump out cellars and children happily dodge puddles in a waterlogged street.
