Overview
It takes all sorts (other liquorice is available) to bring the carnival to life with the many and varied floats. Raising money for charity, the Exmouth Carnival is a regular annual event with dressing up, music and activities. Floats are sponsored by groups and businesses; Fine China daydreams; a Judo Club with dragon; the Surf and Life Savers Club synchronised swim float; Somerset and Red Arrow Majorettes; the Exmouth Players portraying Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
The West Country Carnival Circuits are an annual celebration featuring a parade of illuminated floats in the English West Country. The celebration dates back to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The purpose is to raise money for local charities. Exmouth holds an annual carnival in August and an Illuminate Festival in November. Exmouth sits at the mouth of the River Exe and the town boasts Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture and is a popular tourist destination. Orcombe Point by the town is the western start of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast famed for its geology and fossils.
