The Lost King
Stephen Frears and Steve Coogan (Philomena) reunite for this uplifting underdog story about a Richard III enthusiast (Sally Hawkins) who made global headlines when she dug up what became the most notorious car park in the world.
Director: Stephen Frears
Overview
In 2012, amateur historian Philippa Langley (played by Sally Hawkins) led a search for the remains of Richard III, the last English king to die in battle. Eager to correct his much-maligned reputation, Langley faced down the condescending academic establishment, wrestled with funding pitches and relied on a sceptical but supportive ex-husband (Steve Coogan). What followed made headlines around the world and was even credited with Leicester City Football Club’s unimaginable Premier League win in 2016.
Philomena director Stephen Frears and writers Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope reunite to bring Langley’s uplifting underdog tale to the big screen, also starring Game of Thrones alumnae Harry Lloyd and Mark Addy.
