Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Juvenile delinquent Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) forms an unlikely partnership with Sam Neill’s grizzled bushman in this hilarious wild adventure from Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows).
Director: Taika Waititi
Overview
Juvenile delinquent Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) and his grizzled foster uncle (Sam Neill) form an unlikely bush-trekking duo in this hilarious wild adventure from Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows). When repeat juvenile offender Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) is sent to a remote farm and the care of foster mother Bella (Rima Te Wiata), he fears for the life of boredom that lies in wait. But after several escape attempts he forms an unlikely friendship with Bella’s husband, Hec (Sam Neill) who teaches him the ways of wild survival. An unfortunate turn of events results in them becoming fugitives, and they will have to rely more than ever on each other’s wits, perseverance and shared anti-social sentiments.
Taika Waititi follows his vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows with a comedy that’s a touch more light-hearted but just as laugh-filled. With Sam Neill’s veteran skills perfectly complemented by Dennison’s sparky turn, this is a screen partnership with genuine screen chemistry and it makes for a thoroughly warm-hearted, engaging and uproarious comic odyssey.
