Sound of the Drum

A wartime call-to-arms performed by the Band of the Grenadier Guards.

Non-Fiction 1914 Silent

Overview

We can't hear the sound of the drum in this silent newsreel from the early days of World War I, but the musicians certainly look the part in their ceremonial garb and bearskins. The Band of the Grenadier Guards usually performed at state events like the Trooping of the Colour and were a potent symbol of King and Country. It's easy to imagine the patriotic power of their martial beat.
