Smoking and Health - Woman

A well-to-do woman is unable to answer her child’s cries due to a coughing fit, in this exaggerated anti-smoking advert.

Overview

One of a series of advertisements to discourage smoking (‘Man’ and Teenager’ are also in the series), Woman has a candidly clear concept – a woman is unable to attend to her child crying due to a coughing attack on her way up the stairs. Aside from the exaggerated coughing from the actress in its final frames, what’s most notable is how the campaign is clearly aimed at well-to-do families – even if the majority of viewers wouldn’t have two sets of stairs to climb to reach their children’s bedrooms.
