Overview

Town planning throughout the 1960s gave priority to the motorist but in Nottingham in 1973 (the year of a global energy crisis) the tide was beginning to turn in favour of other road users. Alderman Eric Foster, the city's Lord Mayor, gets on his bike to launch a scheme in which riders in Nottingham will be able to use the new city centre pedestrian streets.
