Overview
Peter Thomas, Denbigh’s Rotary Club president (1973-4), films a series of events organised by the club. There is the Boxing Day Barrel Rolling (1968, 1973, 1975), the Donkey Derby with runaway donkeys (1971) and the carnivals of 1974 (crowning of queens) and 1975 (full parade). Also featured are a couple performing a Scottish dance, the man wearing a kilt. Each section closes with a colourful kaleidoscopic/psychedelic divider card.
Barrel Rolling races were launched in Denbigh in the 1960s by the Rotary Club as a way of raising money for charity. Boxing Day was chosen as the date for the contest as this was the day on which crowds already gathered to see the Flint and Denbigh Hunt parade through the streets. Rotary Clubs are supported by Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
