Overview

This film is set during World War II, but tells a wider story - of how Lancashire, "the shire of rugged moors, of mist and rain" became the heart of the global cotton industry. We follow the trail of cotton from the USA to Lancashire, and then go inside the mills themselves. Finally, the film looks forward, to technological innovations that will transform the industry in the post-war world.
