The Orient Express plays host to a plot involving adultery, espionage, robbery and murder in this fine British thriller.

Thriller 1948 95 mins

Director: John Paddy Carstairs

Overview

An array of characters become caught up in adultery, espionage, robbery and murder, all revolving around a mysterious stolen diary, in this fine British thriller set about the Orient Express.

Essentially a remake of the 1932 film Rome Express, this 1948 update retains the use of an ensemble cast that characterised the original (with some cast members even returning from the previous version). What sets the remake apart is the way it successfully captures the uneasy atmosphere of post-war Europe. Director John Paddy Carstairs is perhaps best known for somewhat lighter fare, such as his association with Norman Wisdom over a number of successful comedies.
