Overview

The cars are the stars and you can almost smell the petrol in this gripping 1950s tale of action and acceleration on the motor racing circuits at Crystal Palace and Silverstone. War veteran and racing car driver Peter Wells battles to get back to winning form after his return from active service; meanwhile he does battle with his wife, Pat, who desperately wants him to retire.

Later in the 1950s, Mask of Dust director Terence Fisher would helm Hammer’s gothic classic Dracula (1958). A couple of decades later, American star Richard Conte would cement his place in screen history with a role as powerful Mafia don Barzini in The Godfather (1972).
