Calamity Jane
Doris Day shares her secret love in this whip-crackin’ musical western.
Musical 1953 101 mins
Director: David Butler
Overview
A cross-dressin’, gun-totin’ Day whip-cracks her way across Dakota and into our hearts in a musical western that’s a dose of pure joy. Despite the love interest of booming-voiced Howard Keel, Calamity feels far more like a great lesbian classic, particularly when Day sings ‘Secret Love’ or in the jaw-dropping, butch-femme homebuilding number ‘A Woman’s Touch’.
