War 2007 119 mins
Director: Feng Xiaogang
Overview
Feng Xiaogang’s film combines brutal war film with a pointed commentary on China’s official treatment of history and sacrifice. A Captain in the Chinese Civil War unwisely refuses to retreat in the face of bombardment, leading the decimation of his company. He awakes sometime later having fallen into a coma, to discover his regiment’s defeat has been airbrushed from the records. What follows is his attempt to prove the existence of the missing men and restore their honour.
