A Brixton Tale
Affluent YouTuber Leah is drawn to shy youth Benji as the subject for her Brixton documentary, but her desire for edgy footage leads them both down a dangerous path.
Drama 2021 76 mins
Director: Darragh Carey
Overview
Leah (Lily Newmark) is a young, affluent YouTuber with filmmaking aspirations and is obsessed with street culture. She is drawn to Benji (Ola Orebiyi), a handsome, shy youth from the infamous Barrier Block housing project, as the subject for her documentary. They soon fall in love and as their relationship deepens so does a reckless desire to capture increasingly edgy material for their film, leading them down a dangerous, violent path as their lives spiral out of control.
Principally a British urban youth drama, this impressive first feature from directing pair Darragh Carey and Bertrand Desrochers evolves into a powerful social commentary piece on issues of identity and exploitation, and features a wealth of outstanding young talent in its cast including Jaime Winstone and Barney Harris.
