Young Geraint - At Home and Abroad
A wedding, parties, Rhyl fair rides, Harlech beach and Portofino all provide young Geraint Hughes from Wrexham with experiences to treasure.
From the collection of:
Overview
Wrexham-born Geraint Hughes discovers the world: he attends a wedding, enjoys the rides at Marine Lake, Rhyl, gets buried in the sand on the beach at Harlech, holds a 5th birthday party and meets a variety of animals including a donkey wearing a hat. He is impressed, possibly, by ancient and modern feats of engineering (Harlech Castle and an electricity pylon) and shows he has a talent for entertaining when he seizes the microphone whilst on stage on holiday in Italy.
Footage shot by Gwilym Caesar Hughes, a Wrexham solicitor from Llangollen originally. He was a member of the Wrexham Round Table which was involved in providing accommodation for competitors attending the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, such as Olga, Zena and others from Yugoslavia who are seen partying in his garden. His father – Caesar Hughes - shot footage of the family in the 1940s/50s and was a clock-maker/repairer. He had a shop in Chirk which he kept on when he moved to Llangollen in 1928 to marry, and there opened another clock/watch shop at 18 Castle Street, selling also radios and Kodak film, which he processed and printed.
