Overview

Arthur George (1906-2004) ran a photography business in Rushden and in the 1930s he produced a local news reel, 'The Rushden Cine Review'. Here we see a later effort in which he captures a significant event for the people of Higham Ferrers - a visit by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. Chichele College, a former chantry college for the training of priests, is the first stop before the flag waving crowds get to see the royal party in the market square and then at St Mary's church.

On 9 July 1965, the day of their trip to Higham Ferrers, Queen and Duke also managed to fit in visits to Kettering, Wellingborough, Northampton and a reception at Althorp House, the home of the Spencer family, before flying back to London Airport.
