Overview

There's certainly no shortage of snow as the speed skaters race not just each other, but the weather as well. The speed skating at the 1948 Games was held at the same rink that had been used for the 1928 Olympics. Switzerland's neutrality during WWII left many towns intact, including St Moritz. This made it a convenient choice for staging the first Games since the 1936 tournament in Berlin, and the first place to host the Winter Olympics twice.
