Armley and Wortley Carnival (1904)

The carnival comes to Leeds and a new Rose Queen is crowned.

Non-Fiction 1904 3 mins Silent

Overview

This record of a Leeds Summer carnival includes many features typical of Edwardian street festivals (some still familiar today): elaborately decorated floats, marching bands and children in historical fancy dress. Particularly captivating is the lavish ceremonial crowning of the Rose Queen, who, after a floral procession, is garlanded by the Lady Mayoress, Mrs A Currer Briggs.
