No Simple Way Home
As peace in South Sudan hangs in the balance of a tenuous agreement, a mother returns from exile with her two daughters, seeking high office.
Director: Akuol de Mabior
Overview
As peace in South Sudan hangs in the balance of a tenuous agreement, a mother returns from exile with her two daughters, seeking high office. Her mission is to safeguard the legacy and vision of her late husband, the revolutionary leader John Garang. Her greatest fear is that he, along with millions of South Sudanese people, died in vain. Her deepest dream is that her children and the children of her compatriots lead meaningful, peaceful lives at home in South Sudan. But what does it mean to call South Sudan home?
Born and raised in exile, filmmaker Akuol de Mabior follows her mother as she campaigns to become one of the country’s five vice-presidents, whilst also exploring the legacy of her father John Garang, a revolutionary leader and politician.
