The Pied Pipers of Harlow

Listen to Harlow: the new town’s musical life from orchestras and choirs to jazz and pop.

Performance 1965 49 mins

Overview

Listen to Harlow: the new town’s vibrant musical life, professional and amateur, from orchestras and choirs to jazz and pop, is revealed by this attractive documentary. Produced by the ever agile Derrick Knight & Partners, this project spun off their earlier film Faces of Harlow (1964), which had been sponsored by the town’s Development Corporation to promote the area.

This musical follow-up was not sponsored but rather was independently produced by Knight and team, in a co-production arrangement with the BBC, who broadcast it on a Tuesday evening at 9:45pm on BBC1, while the producers retained the rights and distributed it non-theatrically.
