Overview
BFI National Archive curator Will Massa and film critic Beatrice Loayza explore the work of contemporary British filmmaker Joanna Hogg. Joanna Hogg's debut feature Unrelated (2007) marked the arrival of a highly distinctive voice in contemporary British cinema. With a forensic eye for dissecting family dynamics (Archipelago (2010)) and dysfunctional relationships (Exhibition (2013)) within the British middle classes, she has worked with both non-professional and professional actors, notably with Tom Hiddleston who features in her first three films.
Unrelated, Archipelago and Exhibition are now available to watch on BFI Player. Joanna Hogg’s Exhibition and The Souvenir were supported by the BFI using funds from the National Lottery funding. Recorded in May 2021.
