Employees of Blundell's Paint Works, Hull (1901)

Tired Edwardian workers finish their shift at a Kingston-Upon-Hull paint factory.

Non-Fiction 1901 2 mins Silent

Overview

This was one of several films made for screening at Hull's Assembly Rooms in April 1901. Many workers ignore the presence of the camera, but the younger lads are more inquisitive. The view of the factory gate is interrupted by a constant stream of horse-drawn vehicles and the recently introduced electric trams, which pass so close to the camera that you can almost feel the ground shake.

A review in Hull Daily Mail, 30 April 1901, comments that "reference must be made to the local scenes. They form an attractive feature, and although they pass rapidly before the vision, it is an easy matter to distinguish acquaintances".
