Non-Fiction 1900 2 mins

Overview

Kroonstad - temporary capital of the Orange Free State - was surrendered to the British on the 11th May, 1900. Here a column of mounted troops crosses a river in order to take possession. Visible at the head of the process (and notably, the only figure to receive and salute) is Lord Roberts. Also seen, on a white charger to the right of the frame, is Lord Kitchener, who would take overall command of the British Forces in South Africa in December 1900.
