Overview

In this entertaining topical round-up from the North West, we firstly visit Winsford Carnival to admire the intricate floral floats and exotic costumes on display. Southport's famous flower show provides more sumptuous delights, and there is time for a spot of fun and frolics in the open-air pool before a visit to Morecambe to see the new Carnival Queen meeting her loyal subjects on the seafront.

The filmmakers Sidney and Harold Preston, identical twin brothers from Stockport, were skilled amateurs who began filming in the North West in the 1920s. This footage was then edited into topical film newsreels, named after Glengarry - the family house in Bramhall, where they had a small news theatre and screened the films to raise money for local charities.
