Overview
An educational film from 1936 using moving models and diagrams of the earth and sun to demonstrate the fundamentals of physical geography. They illustrate how the earth rotates both on its axis and around the sun to create time periods of days and years, with the location of the sun defining day and night.
The opening credits read: - The Earth in Space No. 1. Day and Night. Longitude and Latitude. Produced by Science Film Ltd. Supervised by J.F.P Thornhill, B.A. The film also looks at the concepts of latitude - “the angular distance of a place north or south of the earth's equator, or of the equator of a celestial object, usually expressed in degrees and minutes” and longitude - “the distance of a place east or west of an imaginary line between the North Pole and the South Pole, measured in degrees”.
