Overview
Community TV gives a voice to the villagers of St Erth who with help put together a report for a regional broadcast. They have come up with a scrapbook entitled Our Village in 1965 and Jane Simmons of the local Women’s Institute has coordinated the contributions from the villagers.
The book has come first in the county of 117 entries and is being shown at a Golden Market Place at the Ideal Home Exhibition in Olympia in London as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Women’s Institute. St Erth at the time has 293 houses and this film shows the village and its people. The village is situated near to St Ives and takes its name from Saint Erc, an Irish Saint and is at the old crossing point of the River Hayle. The sand pits around dead pool are left over from clay and tin mining and the area is now a Site of Specific Scientific Interest.
