Overview

Beginning with a washed out holiday at Sutton on Sea in 1936 (although the weather does perk up in time for a sunny walk down the promenade) this home movie shot by James Vann also provides us with a valuable record of the 1935 Silver Jubilee celebrations in Leicester. From the elaborately decorated trams and buses (seen passing the modern Charles Street police station) to the towering bonfire and mighty gun salute in honour of the reign of King George V.
