Overview

All aboard the ‘Deep Duffryn Diddler' Special on 20/10/1979 for a trip on the National Coal Board's internal railway system between Newport and Cardiff, in the year that the Deep Duffryn Colliery in Mountain Ash was closed and the East Moors Steelworks was in the process of being demolished. The trip was organised by the Monmouthshire Railway Society and those with a ticket were conveyed in open coal wagons hauled by both diesel and steam engines (e.g. NCB No. 8).

This reel also features shots of St Fagan's level crossing and castle, and diesel trains on the Cardiff - Newport line, with shots of the Cardiff docks.
