Non-Fiction 1929 1 mins Silent

Overview

Morecambe locals turned out in force on 19 December 1929 to see Lord Derby cut the first sod of a new coastal road, connecting the town to the main London to Carlisle road. The Yorkshire Post reported the following day that 250 men were to be employed in the construction work, half of them from the "distressed northern mining areas".
