Essex County Planners have made town centre shopping a leisurely experience for the ascerning Essex citizen. Two new precincts have appeared in the County. New Town Basildon's custom-built shopping precinct is traffic-free, making it safe to navigate and free from car fumes. Southend-on-sea also have a new precinct. Both are examples of modern transformations of urban space, a welcome contrast to the fume-filled high street at the film's beginning.
