Overview
Cork's celebrated Father Mathew statue features prominently in this early street scene, alongside an electric tram and a variety of horse-drawn traffic, including one or two jaunting-cars - sprightly one-horse open carriages which were particularly popular in Ireland at the end of the 19th century.
This film, shot for the Warwick Trading Company, predates by some two years the visit to Cork by Mitchell & Kenyon - making it the oldest known film of the city to survive.
