Panorama around the Eiffel Tower
Stand in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower and tour the pavilions of Paris's Exposition Universelle of 1900
Overview
You'll see no more than the feet of the Eiffel Tower in this film of Paris's famous Exposition Universelle in 1900. But as the camera moves, in a series of four panning shots that form a circle, you can see many of the spectacular pavilions built especially for the world's fair - from the oriental-inspired architecture of the Tour du Monde section to the magnificent Palais de l'Electricité, illuminated by more than 5,000 lamps - and the bustling crowds.
This film was made by the Warwick Trading Company, an early American film production outfit run from a London office. Warwick specialised in actuality and travel films, which were shot all over the world. In a time when few people could afford to travel, these movies brought far-flung sights to the first film audiences.
