Men Seeking God
An inside view of Methodism taking root in India – and dealing with leprosy.
Overview
This film is a fascinating inside insight into Methodism taking root in India – and, not least, dealing with leprosy. It’s centred on an Indian minister attached to a leprosy home, shown both giving pastoral advice and leading worship. But it also contains much other valuable documentary footage of Indian people at the dawn of the 1930s: harvesting and irrigating the land, trading at street markets, dining at home and more.
This is one of some thirty films made as part of Methodist Missionary Society operations in various parts of Asia and Africa. The film does not have an on-screen title; its title is taken from the label of the can in which it arrived at the BFI National Archive and was presumably the name under which the film was billed at screenings to Methodist audiences.
