Unused scenes from a documentary film visit to Lord Alfred Bossom’s home and garden at Stoneacre, Otham near Maidstone.
Overview
Alfred Charles Bossom, FRIBA, was an English architect noted for his innovative bank buildings; from 1903-1926 he worked in the United States designing in New York and Dallas. Returning to England he became an MP in 1926 and a life peer in 1959. Stoneacre, his Kent home, was built in the late 15th century and housed Bossom’s fine collection of mainly Tudor and Elizabethan decorative art.
During the tour of his home, Lord Bossom points out highlights of his property including the date of handover of the house to the National Trust in 1932. He describes his collections of early weaponry and ivory to the interviewer.
