Overview
The RT- Type bus, with a total production run of nearly 7,000 (more than double the number of Routemasters), was on London streets from 1939. This nostalgic film documents its final day after 40 years of service, as it heads for Barking garage on route 62 on 7 April 1979. Photographers and enthusiasts line the streets of east London to capture the historic moment, while those lucky enough to cram in enjoy the final ride as passengers.
This film is from the collection of London Transport Museum, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
