Lambeth Links

A colourful round up of the 1962 Lambeth Festival with fun for all, from a carnival parade to a beauty contest judged by radio’s Alan Freeman.

Documentary 1962 10 mins Silent

Overview

The sun shone on Lambeth in June 1962 when the locals enjoyed a week of merriment, as this silent film shows. The mayor enjoys the fun of the fair; there's canoeing and water polo at Brockwell Lido and boat passengers take in the view of the borough from the Thames. Not forgetting the popular waiters' race, in which contenders must run through the streets without spilling a tray of pints!
