Overview

Founded in the 1920s, Potter Heigham based Herbert Woods has become one of the biggest fleet hire firms on the Broads. One of the most wonderful fleets produced at Potter were the 'Lady Yachts' - a number of sailing yachts with Lady in their name. Woods was keen that his yard staff had an insight into the art of sailing and 1945 saw the foundation of the exclusive 'Lady' Yacht Club. Staff and invited "friends" still meet to compete to this day in honour of Herbert Woods.

This film records 2 of the annual Lady Yacht Regattas held in October 1952 and '53 at Thurne. The elegance and speed of the vessels can be clearly seen as well as the concentration on the sailors' faces as they compete against their colleagues - dressed in their Sunday best!
