Overview
Atmospheric record of walking in Snowdonia, with views of Nant Ffrancon, the Ogwen Falls, Cwm Idwal, Twll Du, Tryfan (showing the north and south ridges to the summit and the 'notch arete' on the west face being climbed by a novice, with whom the film-maker has a bit of fun via inter-titles), and the approach to the summit of Snowdon along the perilous Crib Goch.
Sidney Whiteley, the film-maker, was a keen photographer and climber who visited Snowdonia regularly during the 1930s and 40s, often with his friend and fellow climber Fred Watkins. This film, which includes shots of Sidney and his wife Margaret Ellen (nee Simon, who was London-born of Welsh parents) won an award at the National Eisteddfod in Caerffili in 1950, was Highly Commended at the 1950 Scottish Amateur Film Festival, and was awarded a Special Commendation by Amateur Cine World magazine.
