Overview

This film, donated by Shelia Gibson, shows a young couple on holiday in North Devon and Somerset visiting such destinations as Pensford, Minehead, Dunster, Porlock and Exmoor. Watch as they relax away from it all in the summer of 1943. We see them enjoying the sunshine, taking tea, wirting a journal, walking in the countryside and woods, horse-riding and in their swimming costumes on the sandy beaches.

Taking holidays was deemed unpatriotic in World War One but it is clear that many people in World War Two still took holidays.
