Holiday
The delights of 1950s Blackpool are vibrantly captured in sunny Kodachrome, in this fondly remembered travelogue from British Transport Films.
Overview
The delights of 1950s Blackpool holidays are vibrantly revisited in John Taylor’s fondly remembered travelogue, produced for British Transport Films. By hiding his camera in a box, Taylor managed to capture the myriad minor joys that constitute the typical Blackpool break, evocatively captured in sunny Kodachrome cinematography.
The real genius of the film, though, lies in Ralph Shelton’s wonderfully rhythmic editing, which marries lively jazz standards to the dynamic exploits of Lancashire’s vivacious holidaymakers. Holiday is also available on BFI's DVD set British Transport Films Vol. 2: See Britain by Train
