Overview
It's a wet and gloomy day in Glasgow and the locals are out in force for the annual Glasgow Territorials' Church Parade. The canny cameramen chose the ideal vantage points from which to capture the proud faces of the marching troops. While the straightforward medium shots fit the solemnity of the occasion, some of the soldiers can't withhold a smile as they pass by the camera.
Military and civic parades and processions were a staple of British newsreels. This film would have been shown as part of a five-minute compilation in local cinemas following the event, and would have surely aroused the interest of the soldiers' families and friends. One of the chief purposes of the parade was to encourage recruitment into the territorial forces and Lord Provost Sir David Mason, President of the Territorial Army and Air Force, is seen taking salute from the dais positioned in Blythswood Square.
