Overview
Ninian Park Stadium, home of Cardiff City Football Club and used by the national team, was opened in 1910 and operated for 99 years until it was demolished in 2009 and houses built on its hallowed turf. The new Cardiff City Stadium opened in 2009 as its replacement. This film, probably shot by a season ticket holder (as the camera is always in the same position, whatever the match), records Ninian Park’s heyday and comprises a compilation of clips from various matches.
This film is from a collection of films shot by Chris Jenkins (1901-1990), proprietor of a hair salon in Cardiff and a keen amateur artist, astronomer and film-maker. He was a stalwart of Cardiff Cine Society for 45 years, becoming its president but neither he, nor his son, were Cardiff City supporters so it may be that this footage was shot by a fellow cine society member. The Archive would be glad to hear from anyone who can identify the teams seen playing.
