Fielding and Wicket Keeping

"Catches win matches!" England's David Gower and wickie Bob Taylor show how it's done.

School programme and Educational film 1983 26 mins

Overview

Despite his laid-back reputation, David Gower was the sharpest fielder in the early 1980s England team, and here he shows the classic techniques of good fielding and catching. England's wicket keeper, Bob Taylor of Derbyshire, demonstrates the skills required for the most specialist position on the field, and there are glimpses of the West Indies, the best fielding team of the time, in action.

This is one in a series of coaching films funded by major cricket sponsor Natwest Bank, all preserved in the BFI National Archive. As well as the demonstrations of technique, the films include relevant coverage of county and Natwest Trophy matches. Other instalments, including Spin Bowling and Batting the Forward Strokes, are also available on BFI Player.
