Overview

The 15th-century city of Bikaner, located in the middle of the Thar desert, is the fourth largest city in Rajasthan. This portrait of the city (filmed just before a very young Diana Rigg became one of its residents), features many of its famous sights, as well as the usual array of snake charmers and assorted colourful locals. Particularly fascinating is the city’s water system where water is pulled from deep wells then distributed via stone channels across Bikaner.

From the tone of the commentary this film was clearly aimed at British school children.
