The County Game
The tradition that won't die: county cricket may be under threat, but its greatest days will always live on film.
In its heyday, from the 30s to the 60s, English first-class county cricket played to packed houses at the most famous grounds, featured the top players of the day, and regularly enlivened the newsreels. That was before central contracts and the one-day game altered its nature for ever. But the names and the clubs live on (sometimes preserving the names of counties long since 'reorganised' away), and they will live forever in the record books - and in film.
